アメリカが世界恐慌後、経済的に困難にあった時、賀川豊彦は協同組合運動の専門家としてアメリカに招聘され、1936年秋、ニューヨーク州ロチェス ター大学のラウシェンブッシュ講座で「Brotherhood Economics」と題して講演した。その内容は直ちにニューヨーク市大手出版のハーパー社から緊急出版された（右）。その本は日本語以外の20数カ国 でも翻訳出版され、世界的な共感を得た。
日本では賀川豊彦献身100年を記念した2009年に翻訳本（左）としてコープ出版で上梓された。このほど、ハーパー社の初版本を電子化し、2月22日からKindleで販売されることになった。つまり僕が編集した初の英語の本ということになる。 「Btrotherhood Economics」の前半はキリスト教に関わる部分が多いのでキリスト教徒以外には難しいが、西洋人にはすーっと入る内容となっている。賀川が世界に問うた 名著の1冊で、この本に書かれた賀川精神は戦後のEUの結成に引き継がれたものとされている。
When America was in great depression after the economic crisis, Toyohiko Kagawa was invited to USA as noe of the world’s specialist for cooporative economy, He made a famous lecture at Colgate-Rochester Divinity School in April, 1936,under the title, “Christian Brotherhood and Economic Reconstruction.”.Four lecture presented by Kagawa was published from Harper & Brothers NY and this book was translated in more than 20 countries. It is asid , the spirit written boy Kagawa in this book was succeeded after the War and led to the foundation of the European Community.
