INVICTUS 9000days
2月13日、近くの映画館で映画「インビクタス」を見ました。筆者自身が南アフリカで少年時代をすごした思いがあるだけに、なんともいえない気持ちになりました。マンデラは9000日、27年間もの間、監獄で過ごし、アパルトヘイト廃止後の南ア大統領に就任します。憎しみを乗り越えることを同胞に訴えるのです。白人社会の象徴だったラグビーチーム「スプリングボックス」の存続を決め、1995年に開催されたラグビーのワールドカップでラグビーを国家統合の証にしようと努力します。

インビクタスはイギリスの詩人ウィリアム・アーネスト・ヘンリーの詩の名前に由来します。マンデラが獄中で愛読したのです。
I am the master of my fate（私は我が運命の主であり）
I am the captain of my soul（我が魂の指揮官なのだ）と語るところではいいようのない魂の昂ぶりを感じるのです。
筆者が観た映画館では、終了後、明かりが着くまで誰一人として席を立たなかった。
